Johnny Rawls: Tiger in a Cage

Johnny Rawls’ new album Tiger In a Cage starts out tough, with the ery urban title song  about a young black man in prison. It’s a strong number and Rawls delivers it well. But I was happy when the album then reerted to his characteristic soul  and r ‘n b for the rest of the 9 original numbers and 3 covers. The covers are sam Cooke’s “Having a Party,” Jackie Wilson’s “Your Love Is Lifting Me (Higher and Higher),” and The Rolling Stones’ “Beast of Burden,: and these versions are as spectacular as any I  have  ever heard,  the original versions. The originals on the CD are all strong numbers with the duet with Eden Brent, :Southern Honey,” being extra special. It is sexy, sultry and soulful.

You will enjoy this CD,
