The James Brown Family Birthday Bash will reunite thirteen members of the James Brown Band with some very special guests one week from today on the birthday of the Godfather of Soul Tuesday, May 3. Special guests include Sharon Jones, George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Ty Taylor (Vintage Trouble), Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), Chris Rob (Nasty Delicious), Gavin Hamilton (Funk You) and Greg Hester. This unique ensemble of world-class and award winning musicians will now be free to the public thanks to the generosity of title sponsor, Copenhaver Consulting.
“It’s impossible for one individual to fill James Brown’s shoes. For that reason, we’ve carefully selected an All-Star roster of musicians.”
-Keith Jenkins (Guitarist James Brown Band / JAMP Maestro)
The concert is a charity benefit for James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils (JAMP), a local non-profit, which furthers music education for Augusta’s youth through the music of James Brown. JAMP was founded in accordance with the wishes of Mr. Brown himself. The JAMP Masters will take the stage directly before the James Brown Band to pay a fitting tribute to the life, legacy and music of “the hardest-working man in show business.”
“Friends With Benefits, the James Brown Family Foundation, the City of Augusta, and Copenhaver Consulting are thrilled to bring back the Bash! This music is such an important part of Augusta’s heritage, and to see it performed both by a younger generation and the legendary James Brown Band is truly special.”
-George Claussen (Founder, Friends With Benefits)
